Outreach

With an objective to train human resources in the field of molecular and conservation genetics,laboratory of molecular and conservation genetics as a part of its outreach activities also engaged in training people in the field. LMCG encourages high schools to arrange for free lecture on “DNA fingerprinting and its application” , “Genetically Modified Crop : Yes or No ?” and many more topics of interest by motivated speakers from lab.

Outreach Activities of LMCG :

  1. On 7th September 2016, Dr. Mumtaz Baig, group leader of LMCG inaugurated the Zoological society at G.S. College, Khamgaon, Buldhana district. On this occasion in the pre-lunch session Dr. Baig delivered popular lecture “DNA Fingerprinting and its application” and “Molecular Phylogenetics” in post-luch session.The lecture was overwhelmingly attended by UG and PG students in the presence of zoology faculties, Dr. G.B. Kale, Dr. Pandhrikar, Dr. Savarkar. Principal of the college, Dr. D.S.Talwankar presided over the program and guided the students on the occasion.
  2. UGC sponsored Six days workshop on “Hands on training in DNA based techniques for life sciences UG teachers working in rural areas of Maharashtra”. With a view to provide hands on experience of basic DNA based tools and techniques, like DNA extraction, PCR based techniques like RAPD, gene and data analyses, Department of Zoology, GVISH, through LMCG conducted six days workshop on “Hands on training in DNA based techniques for life sciences UG teachers working in rural areas of Maharashtra” during 22-27 December 2014. The workshop was attended by 20 UG teachers working in the rural areas of Maharashtra.
